Ep 91: Mommy Juice Culture and the Sober Mom Squad

This is an important episode.

In this conversation with Emily Lynn Paulson and Celeste Yvonne, we’re discussing the prevalence of the “mommy juice” culture, the jokes, memes, and idea that parenthood requires drinking for survival.

Both openly sober for years, Emily and Celeste created the Sober Mom Squad, a community created during the COVID-19 pandemic that hosts weekly free virtual meetings to discuss motherhood and our transitions to new family dynamics and homeschooling.

In the episode, Emily and Celeste share their (very different) personal stories, and offer tips and thoughts on coping through a pandemic and during the holiday season without using alcohol.

Please note: I am not sober. I drink alcohol. But I have also become concerned with the motherhood culture that pushes drinking as a means to deal with anything hard. I originally recorded this episode as a BONUS, but decided it was such an important topic that I wanted it to land in as many ears as possible.

What I’m hoping you’ll hear in this conversation with Emily and Yvonne is just an invitation to think about alcohol differently.
